Emporia bowling took the lanes at Bowlero Northrock in Wichita on Saturday.
The first competition of the season saw the Lady Spartans claim ninth out of 33 schools. EHS was just six pins behind eighth place Derby.
The boys placed sixth out of 37. They were nine pins short of Maize South in fifth.
Emporia bowling travels to Salina South on Tuesday.
