Emporia Police officers say an Emporia man was hurt during a crash in downtown on Monday morning.
The crash was initially reported as in the Mechanic Street underpass around 8 am, but Police Capt. Ray Mattas says the crash happened near the underpass in the 300 block of Mechanic. Officers and Emporia Fire/EMS found an SUV had rolled onto one side and was partially blocking the street. Mattas says 36-year-old Lance Guthrie was eastbound on Fourth and turned south to go south on Mechanic, but the front passenger tire hit a fixed post, causing the SUV to overturn.
Guthrie had reportedly minor injuries and was taken to Newman Regional Health. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
9:30 am Monday: One person hurt after Mechanic Street underpass crash
One person was hospitalized after a crash in downtown Emporia on Monday.
Emporia Fire Capt. Tony Fuller says the wreck in the Mechanic Street underpass was reported around 8 am, with Emporia Fire/EMS and Emporia Police responding soon after. Fuller says one vehicle was tipped onto its side and one person inside had to be extricated before getting taken to Newman Regional Health with unspecified injuries.

Traffic in part of downtown Emporia is getting diverted around the site of a reported injury crash.
The wreck was reported in the Mechanic Street underpass just after 8 am.
At this time, crash details are pending. Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas says there is no official detour and traffic is diverting around the crash scene.
