Numerous local and area projects are moving forward after a batch of contract approvals by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Lyon County will see pavement patching on Interstate 35 around Emporia from the Kansas Turnpike junction in west Emporia to the US Highway 50 junction in east Emporia. RA Knapp Construction of Lenexa won the contract with a nearly $525,000 bid.
Elsewhere:
*Chase County had two projects approved, a 24-mile mill-and-overlay project on Kansas Highway 177 from the Butler County line north to US Highway 50 and a bridge replacement on K-177 over Rock Creek almost directly between the Butler County line and Strong City. APAC Shears of Hutchinson is handling the pavement resurfacing with a bid of almost $4.1 million, while King Construction of Hesston will do the bridge with a bid of $3.7 million.
*In Coffey and Osage counties, Kansas Highway 31 will be repaved from Waverly’s north city limits to the east junction of K-31 and I-35, a distance of 3.2 miles. Bettis Asphalt and Construction of Topeka has the contract after a nearly $560,000 bid.
*Osage County has two additional projects — including milling and overlay work on over 11 miles of US Highway 75 from the Kansas Highway 68 junction east to the intersection of US-75, K-68 and K-268. APAC-Shears bid over $1.5 million for that project. APAC is also handling a separate repaving on US-75 from the intersection at 245th Street north over 10 miles. The bid on that project is almost $3.3 million.
*Greenwood County a pair of projects, including a conventional seal of almost 24 miles of highway from the junction with US Highway 54 north to the Lyon County line. APAC-Shears bid over $850,000 for that work. There will also be 2 miles of surface recycling on K-99 from the Elk County line to the junction with US Highway 400. Dustrol of Towanda has that contract with a bid of almost $320,000.
