One person was hospitalized after a structure fire near Hartford on Sunday.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn tells KVOE News firefighters were toned out to the 900 block of Road Y-5 just before 6 pm. Zumbrunn says a grease fire in the kitchen sent one resident to the hospital by private vehicle for smoke inhalation. A status report is pending.
Zumbrunn says firefighters kept the fire in the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout the house. The fire caused about $10,000 in damages to the house.
Lyon County District 4, Emporia’s rural division, and Olpe fire crews also helped with that fire.
Earlier Sunday, Hartford-Neosho Rapids and District 4 responded to a small grass fire in the 1600 block of Road X near Neosho Rapids. Zumbrunn says there were “a couple” acres on fire due to a controlled burn of a nearby brush pile. There were no injuries, but Zumbrunn says several fire trucks got stuck due to muddy conditions from recent rain. Zumbrunn says grasses areawide have already dried out after Thursday’s rains, calling grass a “one-hour fuel” — meaning it doesn’t take much time to go from saturated to flammable.
