The Olpe Eagles continued their strong season with a dominant performance against the Hartford Jaguars, rolling to a 58–18 victory in girls basketball action.
Olpe (9–1) set the tone early, erupting for a 23–0 run in the opening quarter to build a commanding 24–6 lead by the end of the first. The Eagles’ defensive pressure and efficient scoring kept Hartford on its heels, and Olpe extended the margin to 36–9 by halftime.
The Jaguars (4–6) struggled to find offensive rhythm against Olpe’s defense throughout the night. Olpe maintained control in the third quarter, holding Hartford to just three points while pushing the lead to 43–12 heading into the final period. The Eagles closed out the game strong to secure the 58–18 win.
Lilly Skalsky led Olpe with 18 points, while Alisa Skalsky added 12 in the balanced scoring effort. Hartford was paced by Lauren Finnerty, who finished with 13 points.
The Olpe Eagles improved to 9-1 on the season with a hard fought 59–54 victory over the Hartford Jaguars (8-2) in a tightly contested boys basketball matchup.
Hartford held a slim 16-15 edge at the end of the first quarter, but Olpe answered in the second, taking a narrow 31-29 lead into halftime. The game’s turning point came in the third quarter, when the Eagles put together a decisive 12-0 run to build momentum and extend their advantage. Olpe outscored Hartford 18–14 in the period to take a 49–43 lead into the final quarter.
Hartford battled back late, but Olpe’s composure down the stretch sealed the win according to coach Chris Schmidt.
Brecken McGuire led all scorers with 25 points for Olpe before fouling out with three minutes remaining. Brayden Lienemann provided a key spark, scoring 14 points, including 12 during Olpe’s dominant third quarter run.
Hartford was led by last week’s Area Athlete of the Week Coy Wilkinson, who finished with 22 points to keep the Jaguars within striking distance throughout the night.
