Justin Givens has been busier than usual after he took on new responsibilities in Emporia city government earlier this month.
Givens, the city’s Planning and Zoning administrator since December 2021, was elevated to interim director of the Building and Neighborhood Development Department on Jan. 2 after Kory Krause’s departure. Givens says the department has a lot of different general components.
Givens says Building and Neighborhood Development “touches on all aspects of everybody’s lives.”
To this end, the department has several specialists designed to field questions and guide residents through different city policies.
Givens says his new duties are basically an extension of his current work, prior work over the last 25 years and his interests in government matters.
Officially, Givens will now oversee department operations and service delivery, including permitting, inspections, code enforcement, neighborhood initiatives, and coordination with development partners.
