Nearly half of the $29 million in federal investments for facilities operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers will benefit an area lake.
US Senator Jerry Moran says over $13.7 million will be invested into Council Grove Lake to finish unspecified and outstanding operation and maintenance work at the lake, which is the source of Emporia’s drinking water supply.
Near the KVOE listening area, Marion Lake will get over $8 million for similar projects.
Moran says resources will help the Corps of Engineers in several ways: reducing the risk of flooding, protecting homes and businesses from severe weather impacts, helping water infrastructure and preserving long-term water operations.
Funding was included in the fiscal 2026 Energy and Water Development Appropriations package, which passed the US Senate as part of a three-year program. Funding will be activated if President Trump signs the bill.
