A Reading man is dead following a single-vehicle accident northeast of Emporia Friday.
According to Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Williams, Lyon County Deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were dispatched to the 1700 block of Road 270 alongside Reading First Responders and a LifeSave helicopter just before 11 am for reports of an injury accident in the area. Upon their arrival, deputies found a John Deere tractor had rolled over into a ditch with 78-year-old Kenneth DeDonder of Reading inside the cab.
EMS extricated DeDonder from the cab and provided medical care alongside LifeSave personnel; however, DeDonder succumed to undisclosed injuries and died at the scene. The incident is still under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office; however, Williams says preliminary findings suggest that DeDonder struck a guard rail for unknown reasons while traveling eastbound on 270.
This may have caused the vehicle to overturn and come to a rest in the ditch. KVOE News will provide additional details as they are made available.
