Emporia’s Sertoma Club is serving as a pass-through agent for a grant benefiting another local nonprofit.
A $2,000 Sertoma Club grant is designed to help the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund, which was established by Mike and Gail Barrett after the death of their son, Wade, in 2010 due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The Barretts have developed a partnership with Newman Regional Health to supply all newborns with special sleep sacks while also organizing the Lyon County Community Baby Shower, giving safe sleep cribs to parents as well giving health professionals and other entities chances to give vital information to parents.
Grant funds from the Sertoma Club will help both efforts.
The Emporia Sertoma club is part of Sertoma International and celebrated its 100th anniversary of service last year.
