Emporia used a balanced attack Thursday to defeat Ark City 66-47 at the Bluestem Classic in El Dorado.
Ark City took an early 6-1 lead in the first, but Emporia closed out on a 20-7 run to lead 21-13. The Spartans opened on a 9-0 run in the second and took a 35-20 lead to half. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 35-31 by scoring the first 11 points of the second half. EHS found their own 8-0 and for a 43-34 advantage heading to the fourth.
Harry Trelc led three Spartans in double figures with 18 points. Rylan Crowell added 12 while Chase Harrington had 11. All seven Spartans who played scored at least five points. Everyone being an offensive threat is exactly what coach Evan Burns wants from the squad.
Emporia improves to 12-1 and advances to the semifinal Friday at 4:15 p.m. against Kapaun.
