Catholic Schools Week is now in full swing, as is fundraising for the new Sacred Heart School building.
According to an update from Sacred Heart Principal Curtis Simons, the capital campaign for a new school building, which began just over a year ago, has exceeded the $1 million mark thanks to generous donations and grant opportunities in recent months. Simons says this is still a long way off from the campaign goal, with the project estimated to cost in excess of $6 million.
According to Simons, the current building is nearing 100 years old and there were some conversations about either updating or repurposing the facility; however, he says that as those conversations progressed, the price tag climbed significantly, right around $7 million. Simons says they are anticipating the campaign may be a two-to-three year venture, with the school exploring several grant opportunities while also offering multiple ways for residents to donate and contribute.
Simons’ update came during an interview on Catholic Schools Week, which began Sunday and will run through Saturday. The school has several days of celebration with various activities planned throughout the coming week, all of which are subject to change due to the recent winter storm.
