The 2026 Flint Hills Shootout wrapped up on Friday at White Auditorium in Emporia with two first time champions.
Wabaunsee claimed their first Flint Hill Shootout Championship in the girls division with a 45–21 win over Mission Valley.
The Lady Chargers took control early, opening the game on a 12–0 run and holding Mission Valley to just two points in the first quarter for a 12–2 lead. Wabaunsee’s defense continued to dictate play in the second quarter, as the Lady Vikings managed only four first-half points, sending Wabaunsee into halftime ahead 26–4.
Mission Valley found some offense after the break, but Wabaunsee remained in command, leading 33–12 after three quarters before closing out the win. Wabaunsee shot 15-of-38 from inside the arc and forced 20 turnovers in the victory. Talen Orton led all scorers with 19 points, while Grace Zeller added 14.
In the boys championship, Cair Paravel captured its first tournament title with a 64–47 victory over Osage City.
The Lions used a 7–0 run late in the first quarter to take a 20–12 lead and maintained steady control throughout the game. Cair Paravel led 37–27 at halftime and pushed the margin to 53–41 after three quarters.
Cair Paravel’s perimeter shooting proved decisive, as the Lions connected on 9-of-15 three-point attempts. Blaine Durbin paced Cair Paravel with 15 points, while Caleb Cleverdon added 14, including four three-pointers. Osage City’s Reed Silver led all scorers with 23 points in the loss.
