Travel conditions are in much better shape this midday than they were at this time Monday — and at this time Sunday.
Temperatures now in the 20s will combine with abundant sunshine and city treatment materials to help traffic on local streets and area highways. Conditions began improving Monday afternoon as high temperatures got near 20 degrees.
The city says Public Works handled early snow removal in two main shifts, concentrating on clearing main streets, residential collector streets and emergency routes — but also supporting utilities, sanitation, airport matters and fleet matters. Two snowplows had mechanical issues and a road grader blade needed to be replaced during the weekend work. On Monday, Parks Department crews helped to clear windrows as part of what the city calls post-event cleanup. Nearly 180 hours of overtime were logged this past weekend into Monday.
Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield says county crews will inspect for trouble spots and spot-treat as needed.
