Emporia’s major arterials are clear and the more heavily-used residential streets are in good shape after a 6-inch snowfall this past weekend.
Travel conditions are much better Wednesday evening than they were at any time Saturday or Sunday — at least for major roads, streets and highways — following temperatures around 20 degrees Monday, 30 degrees Tuesday and near 40 degrees Wednesday. Side streets are improving but are still mostly snowpacked.
More improvements are possible Thursday with highs in the mid- and upper 20s. However, areas south and west of Emporia may have freezing fog that may hamper driving early Thursday. Friday night sees a return of subzero air wind chills, which could be -10 to -15 early Saturday.
KVOE and KVOE.com will have updates as warranted.
6 am Wednesday
Travel conditions are getting back to normal across the KVOE listening area after around 6 inches of snowfall this past weekend.
High temperatures around 30 degrees Tuesday helped to clear snow from Emporia’s major arterials and many of the more heavily-traveled residential streets. Side streets are still slick and snowpacked. Area highways are listed as clear by Kandrive.gov.
More melting and better travel conditions are ahead Wednesday as highs reach the mid-30s. Cooler conditions are expected Thursday, but highs in the mid- and upper 20s will still help local travel.
