The first round of the 105th Lyon County League Tournament concluded on Wednesday at White Auditorium in Emporia.
The second night of quarterfinal action began with a thriller on the girls’ side between the Burlingame Bearcats and the Madison Bulldogs. Madison led 13–11 after one and held slim advantages at halftime, 21–20, and after three, 27–24. Regulation ended tied at 37, sending it to overtime. Burlingame pulled out the win in the extra period, 45–42, as Madison’s three-pointer at the buzzer to force a second overtime came up short. Burlingame was led by Audrey Lang with 11 points, while Caylin Luthi scored 12 to pace Madison.
In the other girls quarterfinal, the Olpe Eagles dominated from the opening tip against the Hartford Jaguars. Olpe jumped out to a 23–8 lead after one and cruised to a 60–24 victory. Lilly Skalsky and Carlie Geiger each scored 11 to lead Olpe, while Hartford was led by Lauryn Finnerty’s 18 points.
On the boys’ side, the Lebo Wolves pulled away late to defeat the Madison Bulldogs. The game was tied 16–16 after one, and Lebo held a one-point edge at halftime, 26–25. Lebo outscored Madison in the second half to secure a 63–40 win. Jayden Blount led Lebo with 19 points, while Octavian Dean scored 16 for Madison.
Closing out the night, the Olpe Eagles boys put on an impressive performance against Marais des Cygnes Valley. Olpe led 14–12 after one, stretched it to 28–18 at the half, and then blew it open in the third quarter. Olpe rolled to a 69–22 victory, led by Brecken McGuire, who scored a game-high 26 points.
