Emporia jazz musician Janice Borla is ready for the big day of love, and she’s pleased with the response for her Valentine’s Night concert coming up soon.
Borla is headlining “All You Need is Love” at the Emporia Arts Center’s Davis Theatre, along with a trio of jazz musicians from Wichita: bassist Mark Foley, pianist John Gehring and drummer Steve Hatfield.
Borla is known as the widow of Emporia drummer Jack Mouse, but she is an accomplished musician in her own right. She’s obviously known for her work in jazz, but there will be a lot of contemporary tunes during the show.
Borla, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show this week, says the concert next month is an extension of work with the Arts Council that unfolded during a concert last year. She also says retirement isn’t looking quite like she thought it would when she and Mouse moved to Emporia a few years ago — including more work with the Arts Council through Director Dawn Young and more use of the Davis Theatre.
Tickets for the Feb. 14 show are available through the Arts Center by calling 620-343-6473 or by stopping by the Arts Center at 815 Commercial. Tickets are $45 a person, with tables for 6 costing $270. Doors will open at 6 pm with the concert at 7. Heavy appetizers are included.
