Day three of the Lyon County League Tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia wrapped up with consolation semifinal action on both the girls and boys sides on Thursday.
In girls action, the Waverly Bulldogs took care of business against the Northern Heights Wildcats. Waverly led 18–12 after one quarter and stretched the advantage to 31–22 by halftime. The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the second half, leading 44–25 after three on their way to a 54–36 win. Waverly had three players reach double figures, led by Allie Stukey with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers in the victory.
The second girls consolation semifinal featured Madison and Hartford in a tight contest. Madison held a slim 7–6 lead after the first quarter, and the game was tied at 15 at halftime. Madison took control in the third quarter, leading 26–18, and went on to a 39–32 win. Hartford made a late push, cutting the deficit to 32–28 late in the fourth, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Hartford’s Lauryn Finnerty led all scorers with 25 points, while Madison was paced by Caylin Luthi with 15.
On the boys side, Northern Heights and Waverly squared off in a close matchup. The Wildcats led 20–14 after the first quarter and 26–18 at halftime. Waverly stayed within striking distance, trailing 34–28 after three, but Northern Heights held on for a 45–37 win. Cooper Woodrow led the Wildcats with 14 points.
The final game of the night saw Madison dominate Marais des Cygnes Valley. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17–0 start and led 17–2 after the first quarter. Madison continued to roll, taking a 37–15 halftime lead and a 50–20 advantage after three before finishing with a 59–25 win. Madison was led by Octavian Dean with 19 points, while Brayden Grimmett added 15, including five made three-pointers.
