There has been another damaging structure fire in Eureka.
Fire Chief Luke Westerman says firefighters were dispatched to 1316 North Main shortly before 8:15 pm, finding fire in the attic. Crews limited the fire damage to the living area of the house, although there was smoke and water damage throughout the home. Westerman also says there were several additions to the house over time, so there were opportunities for hot spots to develop and rekindle.
Residents inside the house were brought to safety. There were no injuries.
Westerman says faulty electrical wiring in the home looks to be the cause.
This is the sixth structure fire of note in Eureka since Nov. 22, including five homes and the S&L Hardware store fire. Five of the six have had electric-related issues as the causes.
