The girls finale at the 105th Lyon County League Tournament on Saturday saw Olpe take down Marais des Cygnes Valley 65-59 at White Auditorium in Emporia.
Olpe set the tone early, building a 21-12 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 30-20 advantage into halftime. Marais Des Cygnes Valley made a strong push after the break and edged in front 45-44 by the end of the third quarter, setting up a tense final period. Olpe regained control down the stretch, using timely scoring and defensive stops to secure the win
Deena Wilson really liked what the offense was able to accomplish.
Individually, MDCV’s Akyra Traver delivered a standout performance, scoring a tournament championship game record 33 points. Olpe was led offensively by Lilly Skalsky, who finished with 23 points in the championship effort.
The title is the 32nd in the history of Olpe girls basketball
