Registration is ending soon for parents who want to get their middle school students into a longstanding conference offered by Emporia State University.
Enhancing Your Future with Mathematics and Science is coming March 7 for students in grades 6-8. STEM Outreach Coordinator Holly Hollenbeck says this is now the 31st such conference at ESU, and there are reasons why it has such staying power.
Keynote speakers include Dr Andrea Luthi and ESU students in the afternoon with a chemistry demonstration, along with Jackie Blumer from the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station or ARISS USA project. Numerous workshops are planned, with topics including coding, medicine, engineering, nuclear power, space and biology. STEM Outreach Director Daphne Mayes says a hands-on experience is a given with a conference like this.
Over 200 students will likely attend. Hollenbeck says activities will be spread across campus.
Mayes says the conference is a good way to get children interested in STEM — or to develop interests that are already evident.
The registration deadline is Friday. Cost is $35, including lunch, a T-shirt, workshop materials and a special bag. Click here for the registration link. More information is available on the Emporia State University STEM Outreach Facebook page.
