After a couple postponements due to weather, the Wreaths Across America retirement activities are finally coming Saturday.
Volunteers are asked to gather at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery shortly before noon so they can get directions and then spread out across the cemetery to pick up nearly 2,400 wreaths adorning veteran graves. The wreaths were laid in mid-December.
The original plan was to have the wreaths picked up Jan. 24, but Emporia saw up to 6 inches of snow that day. The pickup event was then reset to Jan. 31, but cold temperatures forced another rescheduling.
Volunteers can simply show up Saturday.
