A Topeka man initially charged in Lyon County after an alleged shooting and standoff incident in Emporia nearly two years ago has been sentenced to lesser charges after a plea agreement reached last month.
Tyler Seifert was originally facing nine counts, including aggravated robbery, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, criminal discharge of a weapon and criminal threat, after an incident in the 700 block of State in April 2024. Seifert had barricaded himself and several other people inside a house. One person had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Emporia Police.
The kidnapping count was dropped relatively early in the court process. Last month, Seifert accepted a no-contest plea to a count of criminal threat and another of aggravated assault. Seifert was officially sentenced to 18 months in prison with the counts to be served concurrently, but he had already completed time served by the time sentencing was rendered.
However, Seifert was also charged in federal court back in August 2024 as being a “prohibited person in possession of a firearm” after a federal counterfeiting conviction in 2016. Shortly before was sentenced in Lyon County, Seifert was sentenced to four years in federal prison with a supervised release term of three years.
