It’s all hands on deck for various local businesses, with one of the busiest times of the year coming up this weekend.
Saturday, as we’re sure you may know, is Valentine’s Day and several local businesses are hard at work preparing for the rush of shoppers and lovers who will be searching for the perfect gift. For Riverside Garden, prep work actually began at the end of the holiday season, according to owner Vickie Triemer.
She tells KVOE News that each year, the shop has to call in additional workers to handle the surge of orders.
Like Riverside, The Sweet Granada also has to call in extra hands to handle the Valentine’s season, the second busiest time of the year, according to owner Kim Redeker, who says the pace of Valentine’s week is surpassed only by the Holiday season.
Redeker says her staff, which also increases each year due to the demand, had Monday off as the next several days are set to be extremely busy.
While business owners are busy stocking their shelves and display cases for Valentine’s Day, performers and local institutions are getting set for a series of Valentine’s events this weekend. This includes Jazz Musician Janice Borla, who will be hosting a Valentine’s Day concert, titled All You Need is Love, inside the Davis Theatre at the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial, Saturday night, with the show beginning at 7 pm and tickets costing $45 per person or $270 for a table of eight.
The Gufler Mansion will also be hosting a Valentine’s Day murder mystery dinner theatre at 5 pm on Valentine’s Day, with tickets costing $87 per person and the evening including hors d’oeuvres, a full meal and the performance.
