What’s the perceived climate for USD 253 Emporia?
Board of Education members will get the results of a special survey as part of their meeting this week. The survey, conducted through a partnership with the Kansas Association of School Boards, took place during the week of Nov 12, 2025, and generated over 1,250 responses among staff, parents and community members. The report will focus on last year’s general results, as well as a school-by-school breakdown and a comparison to the prior study done in 2023.
Other business includes approval of the district’s facility rental usage rate, adoption of the Kansas Homeland Security Region 1 Hazard Mitigation Plan and two executive sessions — one for unspecified student matters and one for evaluation of Superintendent David McGehee. Recognitions are also coming for Horizon Award winner Alyssa McCue, Alexandra Vahsholtz and Sarah Bays as Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees and Kathleen Gilliland as Master Teacher nominee.
Wednesday’s meeting starts at 6 pm at Mary Herbert Education Center.
