Record high temperatures are no longer in our forecast — at least for the foreseeable future. Above-normal temperatures are.
Monday’s high of 79 degrees broke a 50-year-old record for Emporia. The previous record high was 76 degrees set in 1976.
A dry cold front means Tuesday’s highs will be over 20 degrees lower than Monday’s as we reach 55. However, we will have temperatures in the 50s and 60s for at least a week, well above the normal high temperatures in the mid-40s.
Short-term, there is a high fire danger Tuesday with relative humidity levels at or below 35 percent and gusty north winds up to 35 mph. As we get to the weekend, rain chances begin Friday afternoon but appear likely for Friday night and Saturday. Dry conditions could return Sunday.
KVOE and KVOE.com will have updates.
