Less than a month ago, the KVOE listening area was blanketed in 4-7 inches of snowfall, including around 6 inches of snow across Emporia.
Now low levels of drought have returned to parts of the KVOE listening area.
The latest update from the US Drought Monitor indicates abnormally dry conditions in far south Lyon County, the southern half of Coffey County and all of Greenwood County. The southeast half of Greenwood County was the only part of the KVOE listening area listed as abnormally dry last week.
Since the snowfall last week, there has been no measurable precipitation areawide. That appears to be changing, at least short-term, with rain chances beginning Friday and continuing Valentine’s Day. An inch or more of rain is currently possible. The pattern dries out afterward as the current forecast indicates dry and well-above-normal temperatures for most of next week.
