Fraudsters are once again targeting a local banking institution and its clients.
According to a news release from Emporia State Federal Credit Union, fraudsters have been impersonating credit union employees or 3rd party fraud departments in an attempt to steal sensitive customer information, including debit and credit card numbers. The news release says these fraudsters may be cloning the credit union’s number or impersonating specific employees whom customers are familiar with in order to access said information.
ESCFU says it will never ask for residents’ personal information, including credit or debit card numbers or their full social security numbers, and reminds residents to be wary of any calls asking for such information. If you receive such a call and believe it may be a scam, please hang up immediately and contact the credit union or your banking institution.
