The excitement inside the Olpe Knights of Columbus Hall at the third annual, and third consecutive sold-out, Green Machine Gala Saturday evening, was perhaps matched only by the excitement surrounding progress on the project that the gala is benefiting.
During an interview with KVOE News just ahead of the gala, Olpe Fitness Park Committee member Tyler Schmidt gave an update on phase one construction for the park, which began in early November.
With phase one well underway, Saturday’s festivities, which again included a steak dinner, auction and dance, and resulting funds will go to support phase two construction, preparations for which, according to Schmidt, could be kicking into high gear very soon.
As mentioned, the event was once again a sell-out for the third consecutive year, with the evening’s crowd consisting of both Olpe and neighboring residents. Schmidt says it is very encouraging to see so many individuals from outside Olpe’s borders stepping forward to support what he calls a “Very worthy cause.”
Fundraising totals from Saturday night are pending; however, organizers are very confident the numbers will be high once again, with Schmidt saying he believes the visible progress on phase one has served as a major motivator for donations and sponsorships this year.
Phase two work will include a new splash pad, a multipurpose building, and the completion of a fitness trail.
