Emporia city commissioners have several infrastructure matters as part of their regular meeting this week.
Commissioners may well approve a Safe Streets for All cost-share agreement involving the Federal Highway Administration, Kansas Department of Transportation and the city. The two-year, $300,000 transportation safety study project has the vast majority of funding coming from the state and federal governments, with the city contributing $15,000.
Separately, there will be a public hearing to end the Commercial Development Block Grant Commercial Rehabilitation Grant at 517 Merchant — the former Emporia Gazette headquarters now under renovation as The Gazette Collective. Commissioners could also authorize issuing General Obligation bonds to replace a street sweeper. Estimated cost is around $400,000.
The meeting starts at 11 am Wednesday at the Municipal Court Room. No study meeting is currently planned because there will be a joint meeting involving Emporia city and Lyon County commissioners at noon at the Wheeler Conference Room.
