Emporia State University is encouraging area residents to attend a special event on space exploration this upcoming weekend.
ESU will hold Signals from Space, an event highlighting the work of amateur radio in long-distance communication. Peterson Planetarium Director Mark Brown, staff from the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center and members of the Amateur Radio Society will have interactive activity stations to give attendees a better sense of the International Space Station and aerospace engineering.
The event is from 10 am to noon at Emporia State’s Cram Science Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but residents must register individually online at esuparoc.com.
With a confirmed date for Emporia State’s involvement in the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station or ARISS project still pending but expected this spring, ESY is collaborating with the Emporia Public Library, local schools and other area groups to introduce students and the community at large to space exploration and long-distance communication ahead of ARISS contact. Upcoming events are to be announced.
