Emporia High basketball dropped both games in Topeka with Washburn Rural on Tuesday.
In the boy’s game, Emporia fell in overtime 46-44.
Harry Trelc propelled the Spartans’ attack with eight first quarter points as EHS led 15-12. WR won the second and took a 24-21 lead at halftime. Emporia was held scoreless until the 2:37 mark in the third, which allowed the Junior Blues to build a 39-26 lead. The Spartans held Rural to zero points in the fourth to storm all the way back and send it to overtime, 39-39. The Junior Blues won ot 7-5
Trelc finished with a game high 19 points. Rylan Crowell added 13.
The comeback Spartans couldn’t complete the win. Coach Evan Burns thinks this game could give the club a spark.
EHS drops to 15-5 (4-3)
In the girl’s contest, Washburn Rural used a strong second quarter to pull away for the 50-26 win.
Emporia never trailed in quarter one and led by as many as four as the score sat at 8-8 after one. The Junior Blues went on a 19-0 across the entire second quarter to be up 27-8 at half. WR grew took a 40-16 lead to the fourth.
Kaylee DeWitt led Emporia with 12 points and Maycee Davis added ten.
Assistant coach Brett Stewart knows Emporia is still in the building stages.
The Lady Spartans drop to 7-13 (1-6)
EHS travels to Topeka High on Friday.
