Campaign season is fully underway, and that means political appearances will become more prevalent.
Don Coover is planning to meet with residents at Gravel City Roasters from 5-6:30 pm Tuesday. Coover, a Democrat, is running for the US House Second District seat currently held by Republican Derek Schmidt. Coover is a veteran and a veterinarian who runs a beef cattle genetics company. Coover is also facing a primary against Braeden Curwick, while Schmidt is running unopposed.
This is the presidential midterm election. In Kansas, the US Senate seat held by Roger Marshall is on the ballot. Marshall is running unopposed on the Republican side, while six Democrats — Christy Davis, Erik Murray, Sandy Neumann, Lois Parelkar, Patrick Schmidt and Michael Soetaert — have either announced or filed.
Kansas, meanwhile, has governor/lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer and insurance commissioner on the ballot, as well as the Kansas House.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1. The primary election is Aug. 4, with the general election Nov. 3.
