No structural damage was reported after a fire at a west Emporia business Wednesday.
Initially, a structure fire was reported at Emporia’s F&F Feeds shortly before 5 pm. Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope tells KVOE News that was not the case.
Cope credited firefighters for keeping the fire limited to the hay bales and not spreading to any nearby buildings, equipment or livestock.
No injuries were reported. Roughly 40 bales were involved.
The fire was listed as rekindled shortly after 6 am. Details on the rekindle issues and damage are pending. Emporia Fire and Lyon County District 4, the city’s rural fire unit, put out the rekindle — but Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the bales will likely smolder for days.
