Emporia State sophomore pitcher Colby Deaver is now receiving national recognition. The Sophomore starter has been named the NCBWA Central Region and National Pitcher of the Week. The Blue Springs, MO product tossed 6.0 shutout innings in ESU’s 6-3 win over Sioux Falls last weekend on the way to striking out 10 Cougars. Deaver has tossed 18.0 scoreless innings to start his Hornet career with 26 strikeouts against just one walk. Deaver has already been honored twice by The MIAA as its pitcher of the week. The Hornets (9-1) are off to their best start since 2011 and open MIAA play on the road Friday with a 3-game set at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
