As Southwick House continues fundraising for a new transitional housing facility, the longstanding home of its predecessor has a special event this weekend to update the different processes involved.
The Regal Plumb, long known as Plumb Place, has a special Founder’s Day Open House from 2-5 pm Sunday. Residents can tour the restored mansion, as well as enjoy drinks, refreshments and music from a live band. While at the Regal Plumb, residents can also get updates on the nearly $4 million capital campaign, work towards construction and the Southwick House vision for the transitional shelter in the 100 block of East Logan.
Over $2 million has been generated for a 9,000-square-foot facility, with almost 15 rooms for women and a self-contained non-congregate room for families.
Meanwhile, Southwick House is in the process of finding an executive director. Current director Susan Brinkman has accepted a development coach position with the Kansas Methodist Foundation in Kansas City.
More information is available at southwickhouse.org. Board President Jeremy Dorsey will have an update on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Friday.
