Friday night marked the regular season finale of the Area Game of the Week, as the Lyndon Tigers hosted the Madison Bulldogs in the doubleheader — and it was a clean sweep for Lyndon.
In the girls’ matchup, Lyndon and Madison battled through a defensive first quarter, with the Tigers holding a slim 7-5 lead after one. Lyndon stretched that advantage to 16-11 by halftime, then created separation in the third quarter, outscoring Madison to take a 34-22 lead into the fourth. The Tigers closed it out for a 49-34 victory.
Lyndon didn’t hit a three-pointer all night, finishing 0-for-13 from beyond the arc, but dominated inside, going 16-of-41 on two-point attempts and a strong 17-of-23 from the free throw line. Madison struggled from the floor, shooting just 4-of-26 inside, but kept pace at the stripe, going 17-of-30.
Allie Kneisler led the way for Lyndon with 25 points, while Sadie Albert paced Madison with 18.
Head coach Megan Heckel credits her defense for the win.
In the boys’ contest, Lyndon came out red hot. The Tigers exploded for a 23-14 lead after one quarter, knocking down an incredible 7-of-7 from three-point range in the opening period. They carried a 29-23 advantage into halftime and extended the lead to 47-38 by the end of the third.
Lyndon closed strong in the fourth to secure a 66-54 win — and make history in the process. The Tigers set a school record with 14 made three-pointers in the game.
Cameron Weston led the charge off the bench with 26 points, including eight three-pointers. James Marcotte added 18 points, 11 of them coming in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. Madison was led by Octavian Dean with 18 points.
