The Emporia State tennis teams swept a doubleheader over Southwest Baptist at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. on Friday afternoon. The Lady Hornets came back from 3-1 down for a 5-4 victory over the Bearcats while the men picked up a 4-1 win over their former MIAA rivals. The ESU comeback was fueled by the bottom half of the women’s lineup with Sheridan Wichman, Giulia Russu and Erin Cahill winning at #4 through #6 singles respectively. In the men’s dual, the Hornets picked up the doubles point with Anton Sarunic and Diego Calvo winning a super tiebreak 7-3. Calvo then won in straight sets at #2 singles with the Hornets getting the dual clinched at #5 singles with Santiago Torres pounding his Bearcat opponent 6-0, 6-1. ESU are in action in MIAA/GAC interdivision play Wednesday facing Arkansas-Fort Smith while the Lady Hornets face Southern Arkansas in non-conference action on Monday, March 2.
