Typically, the United Way of the Flint Hills doesn’t issue any fundraising updates from the start of the year until its annual Campaign Celebration.
That’s not the case this year — because the campaign goal is definitely in sight.
The United Way says it has generated $485,000 in donations, fast approaching the goal of $500,000. Executive Director Daphne Mertens is asking donors to give the campaign a strong finish.
Mertens is impressed with the level of donations, especially given some of the financial hardships seen locally over the last 15 months.
In a social media post Friday, the United Way says donations funnel into numerous programs including emergency food relief, Abundant Grace meals, Food for Students, senior meals, legal aid, child visitation and exchange, healthy home visitors, childcare support and other ventures. Mertens says the United Way is taking on a more hands-on approach to providing services than it has in the past.
Residents wanting to contribute can call the United Way at 620-342-7564 or go online to unitedwayoftheflinthills.org. Proceeds benefit residents in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
