The Emporia State softball team split two games at the Washburn Tournament on Saturday in Silver Lake, Kan. ESU won the first game 5-3 over Minnesota-Crookston. ESU trailed 3-1 after the first but scored the last four runs of the game to seal it. Brooke Flewelling launched another home run and was joined by Avery Brewer as their back-to-back bombs put ESU in front. The Golden Eagles rallied to get the winning run to the plate in the seventh, but the Lady Hornets held on. Hannah Butterbaugh (5-0) picked up the win allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief.
E-State lost a pitching duel 2-1 in their second game of the day against Wayne State College. Addison Callaway led off the third inning with a single and later scored for ESU’s only run. Wayne State tied in the fifth and the teams were deadlocked until a 10th inning walked it off for the Wildcats. ESU scratched out just five hits in the game. Butterbaugh (5-1) gave up just three hits and one run in 3.2 innings of relief but suffered her first loss of the year. ESU wraps up play Sunday with games against Drury and Rockhurst.
