No injuries were reported following an emergency landing of an aircraft near the Lyon Wabaunsee County line Monday morning.
According to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Erica Cebulski, she was alerted to an emergency landing at the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 400, just south of the county line, just before 10 am. Upon arrival, Cebulski says she found an aircraft in a cornfield on the southwest corner of the intersection.
According to Cebulski, neither the pilot nor his passenger was at the scene upon her arrival, saying they dropped the passenger off at their destination before returning to the scene of the landing. The pilot then reported that the propeller of the plane had stopped working in mid-flight, necessitating an emergency landing.
The plane landed in the cornfield, with the aircraft suffering some minor damage, including one of the wheels being ripped off; however, neither individual sustained any injuries. Cebulski says the incident has been passed off to the Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation.
