High temperatures will reach the mid-60s by late afternoon, but southwesterly wind gusts will increase to 30 mph while relative humidity levels dip below 30 percent. Grasses continue to dry out after heavy rainfall Feb. 13-14. The National Weather Service says the area of greatest concern is along and south of Interstate 35.
Chase, Coffey and Osage counties are in separate burn bans until further notice. Meanwhile, Chase County firefighters have extinguished a grass fire along the Kansas Turnpike near mile marker 105, almost directly between the Matfield Green service exit at mile marker 97 and the Flint Hills cattle pens exit at mile marker 112. The fire was reported around 6 am.
The fire danger should come down Wednesday. Wind gusts will be 10 mph or less and a ran chance develops Wednesday night.
