President Donald Trump delivered the longest State of the Union on record Tuesday night.
The president spoke for 1 hour, 48 minutes, saying America is headed in the right direction at a time when his disapproval rating is at 60 percent, according to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released this past weekend.
Trump addressed a lengthy list of policy points, including concerns about inflation and increasing prices on numerous consumer items — using gasoline as an example.
Trump also discussed his tariff package that was recently struck down by the US Supreme Court.
Trump slammed Democrats, especially on immigration policy, and he had warnings for Iran and its nuclear weapon program.
To this point, the only federal lawmaker from Kansas commenting on the State of the Union has been Senator Roger Marshall, who says the president “laid out a clear vision for a stronger, safer and more prosperous America.”
In the Democratic response, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger said the president did not tell Americans the truth when it comes to affordability and safety.
Spanberger also said there was an “unprecedented” level of corruption now evident in the Trump administration.
