At 5 pm Thursday, one of the last items of business for Cliff’s Super Service in downtown Emporia will take place.
An equipment auction is scheduled through 8 pm at the business, located at 115 East Fifth. When asked what is on the auction block, longtime owner Jesse Shaver had this to say:
Shaver has been operating Cliff’s for almost 40 years. Selling the building and auctioning the equipment is a step he didn’t want to take.
Shaver put the business on the market in August 2024. He says there was some surprise when the business didn’t change hands, but it wasn’t as much of a stunner as one might expect.
Shavers have been serving the community’s automotive and transportation needs since the late 1800s.
Shaver says customer service is a pivotal lesson the business taught him. It’s a lesson he treasures today.
Once the auction is finished, Shaver will sell the building, and he says he has a local buyer who is trying to expand a business — but Shaver isn’t mentioning the business by name or owner at this time. Shaver says there is an agreement where he can stop by at any time to reminisce. He also has a trip planned with his wife.
