USD 252 Southern Lyon County is gearing up for its 15th Honor Flight in April.
The two-day whirlwind round-trip to the nation’s capital will take place April 13th through the 14th and will include 29 veterans, including coordinators and support staff, and 24 USD 252 students. According to lead organizer Megan McGuire, final preparations are currently underway, but for all intents and purposes, the flight is ready for takeoff.
One of the students making the trip is Kamryn Temeyer, who also went during her sophomore year. Temeyer says she is very excited to make the trip not only because of the experience, but also because of the individual with whom she will be sharing it.
In addition to the veterans and students who will physically be making the trip, the district is also looking to carry the memories of veterans who have passed with them once again through the Flags for Heroes component of the program. McGuire explains exactly how Flags for Heroes works.
Those interested in creating a board for the trip to honor their veteran can go online to the USD 252 Honor Flight Facebook page, where they can find a link to fill out the necessary forms, or call Olpe High School at 620-475-3223 for assistance. The cost for a Flags for Heroes board is $40.
