Olpe advanced in the KSHSAA Class 1A Division I Sub-State Semifinals with a convincing 73-53 victory over Centralia on Saturday.
The Eagles, now 21-2, wasted no time taking control. Olpe opened the game on a 10-0 run and led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter. The strong start set the tone, as the Eagles continued to apply pressure on both ends of the floor.
By halftime, Olpe had built a 34-19 advantage, fueled by efficient scoring and solid defense. The Eagles extended their lead even further in the third quarter, outscoring Centralia to take a 55-34 cushion into the final period.
Olpe maintained control throughout the fourth quarter to secure the 20-point win.
Brecken McGuire delivered a standout performance for the Eagles, pouring in a season-high 37 points to lead all scorers. Deron Leonard added 13 points, while KoRel Robinson chipped in 12 to round out Olpe’s balanced attack.
Centralia, which finished the season at 13-12, was led by Quentin Alderfer with 14 points.
The quick start was exactly what Chris Schmidt was hoping for.
With the win, Olpe advances to face Rural Vista, which defeated Wabaunsee 57-50, at Clifton-Clyde on Friday March 6th. The KVOE Family of Stations will broadcast the game.
