Ahead of the start of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas, there was a severe weather alert for an area county.
Northwest Chase County was briefly in a severe thunderstorm warning after a severe storm moved in from Marion County. The storm had dropped 1- to 1.5-inch hail in Marion County but lost its power after approaching central Chase County. No severe weather has been reported so far in Chase County with the storm activity.
Pea-sized hail was reported in south Emporia as part of a separate, non-severe thunderstorm.
Severe Weather Awareness Week officially begins Monday.
Most area residents have been dealing with isolated to scattered non-severe storm activity through the early afternoon and a cold rain or wintry mix all day. The Emporia Municipal Airport is reporting less than 0.10 inch of icing on flat surfaces. No travel issues have been reported as of 2:30 pm Sunday. Rin totals:
*KVOE studios: 0.70 inches
