Work may get off to a slow start because of the weather, but Kansas Highway 177 is now closed between Council Grove and Strong City due to a major construction project.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced a nearly $10 million highway reconstruction and a bridge replacement starting Monday. This will close the highway to all thru traffic from the K-177 junction with US Highway 50 outside Strong City to the US-56 junction in Council Grove. This also sets up a 73-mile detour involving US-50 and US-56 to the west, as well as US Highway 77 and Kansas Highway 150.
Work should go at least into this upcoming fall. Early construction may see delays with numerous rain chances this week.
