The annual Hopkins Awards recognitions have taken place.
The Hopkins Foundation has recognized excellence among teachers and staff for Emporia schools for over 20 years, expanding its recognition program to include USD 251 North Lyon County, USD 252 Southern Lyon County and Emporia’s parochial schools — Emporia Christian School and Sacred Heart Elementary.
Tuesday saw Emporia teachers honored.
*Emporia High School: Art teacher Grant Charpentier, Technology Education teacher Adrian Ingles and Language Arts teacher Ashlie Thomas
*Emporia Middle School: 7th grade math teacher Charli Acevedo, 6th grade math teacher Heath Duncan and 6th grade science teacher Brandi Schneider
*Timmerman Elementary School: 4th grade teacher Rylee Hendrikse
*Village Elementary School: 5th grade teacher Alexandra Vahsholtz
*Walnut Elementary School: 5th grade teacher Manuel Estrada Espinoza and 2nd grade teacher Samantha Mezquite
*Jones Early Childhood Center: Early Childhood teacher Lisa Hart
*Riverside Elementary School: Kindergarten teacher Saul Trujillo
*Riverside Elementary School: 4th grade teacher Toni Bankson
*Logan Avenue Elementary: Adaptive Special Education teacher Shawn Russell
Round 1 on Monday focused on the parochial schools, USD 251 and USD 252. Award winners:
*Emporia Christian School: Preschool teacher Kristina Brisendine, 3rd/4th grade teacher Tammy Handke and PE/music teacher RJ Stovall
*Sacred Heart Elementary: 3rd/4th grade teacher Michelle Blaufuss and 1st grade teacher Roberta Schafer
*USD 251 North Lyon County: Northern Heights LR teacher Kathleen Bish and and Industrial Arts teacher Jacob Lang and NLC Elementary 6th/7th/8th grade math teacher Cali Doudna
*USD 252 Southern Lyon County: Hartford High social studies/science teacher Lance Bolen, Hartford High English teacher Jessica Elliott and Neosho Rapids 3rd grade teacher Colten Barrett
Honorees get $1,500 for their personal use and another $500 to enhance their respective classrooms.
