Emporia girls basketball coach Bill Nienstedt stepped down Thursday morning after one season leading the Lady Spartans in his second stint with the program.
Nienstedt returned to Emporia in the middle of the summer after former coach Taylor Scott resigned late in the offseason. Scott had spent just one year with the program after taking over for Carolyn Dorsey.
Nienstedt said he ultimately felt the program deserved more than he can currently give.
He said he was grateful for the opportunity to return and was glad he could help guide this year’s team.
Emporia finished the season with an 8-16 record and saw its season come to an end with a first-round Sub-State loss to Kapaun-Mt. Carmel.
