The Emporia Friends of the Zoo’s biggest fundraiser of the year is Friday night.
The annual EFOZ Roundup Auction is at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. EFOZ Board President and Auction Committee Co-Chair Megan Tajchman says there are a lot of experiences up for bid. Travel is a popular category.
As usual, there are a number of sports items, including two pairs of tickets to an Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game and KU jayhawks memorabilia. From the zoo perspective, there are also animal sponsorships, including the mountain lion, bison, cotton-top tamarins, lemurs, king vultures, the highland cow and white Dexter cow. Residents can also bid to flip the ceremonial switch at the Happy Holidaze Christmas lighting ceremony or shadow a zookeeper.
Tajchman says auction fatigue is not an issue with the Roundup Auction.
Doors open at 5 pm, the same time the silent auction starts. The live auction begins at 6:30 pm with nearly 100 items available. An online auction, available since Feb. 27, ends at 10 pm.
A few tickets remain. Cost is $40 a person or $320 for tables of 8 guests. Smokin’ O’s BBQ is providing the meal and Turquoise Tavern is the bartender. More information is available at efoz.org or by calling the David Traylor Zoo office at 602-341-4365.
